Capitola – Honeymoon Destination
If you are in the Santa Cruz area, take a side trip to Capitola, a laid-back beach town where summer seems to last forever. Stroll along the brightly colored cottages that may remind you of a coastal village in Italy, or sip an expresso while watching the sun rise. Capitola is one of the oldest resort towns in California, attracting surfers to catch the perfect wave.
If you forget your beach gear, just drop by Sea Level Boutique where you can find flip-flops, beach towels, cover-ups, and sand toys. Capitola Village, the shopping and dining district, is also the place to sample some of the local faire. Try the fettuccine and lobster at Caruso’s Tuscan Cuisine. Or, maybe Geisha Japanese Restaurant and Tea House with the best selection of sushi may be the adventure you need. For breakfast, the bear claws and warm muffins are worth waiting in the line at Gayle’s Bakery and Rosticceria. While you are there, you might also grab a made-from-scratch pie or pastry for later. You can also sample old-world style brews at Sante Adairius Rustic Ales.
If you are in the area during the summer, catch a concert at Esplanade Park. Or, enjoy the Capitola Art and Wine Festival. During Labor Day weekend, the town hosts the Capitola Begonia Festival. The highlight of the festival is the parade of rafts decorated with flowers, floating down Soquel Creek, and the sand castle contest at the beach.
