This is the time of year to give gifts. Everywhere I look something is on sale or there is an email telling me I am going to save 50% off if I purchase by midnight. This year I am trying to really think about the gifts I give to people. In years past I would make a mad dash to the store and buy things just because I had to. Then, when the time would come to open the gift I was a little disappointed because I thought I really should have put more effort into the gift and thought about what the person would really want. A few years ago, I thought I’d be Martha Stewart. I went on Pinterest and found all these holiday crafts I was going to make as gifts. I then went to Michael’s and purchased a lot of paper, glitter, glue, and wood. Turns out I am not Martha Stewart and it really is better to leave the crafting to people on Etsy!
With 2 more weeks until Christmas I feel that I have taken the time to give gifts that mean something. The other day I was out with my mom and she saw a sweater she really likes. I made a mental note to get that sweater for her. It is now under the tree (I hope mom is not reading my blog!!). Since this is my daughter’s first Christmas I am also doing something special for family that involves her. For her Christmas gift, we are getting her an Elmo book that is personalized with her name on it. I just love books! I still have a lot of my books from my childhood and it is so special to read them to my little one now.
For my first Christmas with my husband I got us an ornament with Mr and Mrs on it. He got me a framed picture of one of our wedding photos. That was really all I wanted – especially since we had a lot of frames around the house with no pictures in it.
So this year, when out buying gifts, consider the meaning in the gift. Just don’t give a gift because.
